Whats new in Mount Vernon NY
I have been very busy in the last few weeks and enjoying the areas that I sell homes in. My primary area has been Mount Vernon NY. I sense a great deal of progress being made here in Mount Vernon. As a resident and Realtor, I am very pleased with the major projects that are happening here in Mount Vernon. From condo developments being built, the hiring of 22 new cops, and even the Center City project to revitalize the city of Mount Vernon’s shopping district.
The Mount Vernon Police Department has just hired 22 new provisional police officers, which has increased the force to 204. That is the largest number of police ever on the Mount Vernon force. Crime is being decreased and major cases are being pursued aggressively by Police Commissioner Chung. Hopefully new officers will be a great value to the Commissioner’s efforts. (For more information contact the local police precinct). As I see a positive growth of residents seeking Mount Vernon as their future home it is good to know that Mount Vernon is adjusting their efforts to make sure that they expand with the population.
Do you think Mount Vernon needed to increase its police force or should they have just channeled their efforts more?
As the force grows will you feel more secure?
Would you be willing to join with police to increase the safety in your neighborhood by forming a community watch?
Mayor Ernie Davis recently had a public presentation on July 26th 2007 where a major proposal took place. This is the Center City project to be on the site of the Mount Vernon East Train station (Metro North). Possible suggestions include a high rise hotel, retail space, a movie theatre, more recreational space, commercial space to include, retail, restaurants, entertainment and possibly a new library. All proposals took into consideration Bridging Gramatan Avenue and South Fourth Avenue.
As a Mount Vernon resident I would love to know your thoughts so I can present them at the next meeting. Please feel free to post any comments on the link for this blog.
What are your feelings about this project?
Some concerns are that South Fourth Avenue will not make the necessary changes in order to keep up with the construction so both sides of Gramatan Avenue and South Fourth Avenue will have a new revitalized fresh look with more to offer to the residents and visitors of Mount Vernon. Do you agree with this statement made by most?
The Target shopping center here in Mount Vernon has brought many jobs and a great deal of revenue to our city. The Target here in Mount Vernon is actually the third highest grossing store in the nation. As a Realtor I am always happy to see growth in the city in which I reside. I believe in Mount Vernon. After all this is “The City that Believes”.
Do you believe in the future of Mount Vernon? Do you see the growth? If you don’t, what are your thoughts about change in our community and how do you think you can contribute to these changes?
