I don't know the Mt Vernon you describe. The "Roundabout" was an enormous boondoggle and absolute waste of taxpayers hard earned money. The dancing waters belong in Las Vegas and are an embarassment. The soldier that the statue represents must be spinning in his grave. The streets are in disrepair and full of litter. I count 30 empty stores on Gramatan Avenue not to mention the empty spaces above the stores, thanks to the inability of cars to get to Gramatan Avenue during the 3 years the roundabout was being built. The school system has been abandoned by any caring parent who can afford to send their children to private school.

Ernie Davis should be the poster boy for term limits.

Thanks for your comments. I can only deliver the news. The Roundabout did cost $1.3 million of the Tax payers funds.  I am doing some research but that was phase one. Their will be more things happening there. Some stores are still closing now after as well due to the inability to afford the high leases.  

I am single father and I can afford private school my son however goes to public school.

How would you improve Mount Vernon?

My family has lived in Mount Vernon for over 50 years, my Grandmother was nurse and she was also active in the child care community in her younger years. She married a Mount Vernon man who became a police lieutenant for the Throngs Neck Bridge; he also helped with the campaigns of Mayor Sharpe and the legislators at that time. I have lived here for twenty years and have seen the ups and downs of the town.  

Ever since Davis has been mayor the taxes have sky rocketed. I am not sure about you but I have felt the pains of our tax prices and seen with my own eyes people leaving to neighboring towns due to the tax cost. Having a Target department store is great for Target and its owned subsidiaries, however you forget about the people and business in the rest of the town, a Target store can drastically eliminate all local business which are already suffering the high price of property, city, and school taxes. If you were to drive around the town you will see more FOR SALE signs of homes and business than you have ever seen in Mount Vernon’s History. Almost 60% of 1st street and 3rd streets business store fronts are empty/for sale. That is only two blocks in the four miles

The blunders of the administration, Urban Renewal agency works health benefits caused the Federal investigation of the Mayor, as well as his history of tax evasion. It would seem to be the focus of enough people, but the Mayor has taken many steps to try and keep it low. People need to know the truth and see from under the veil of last minute attempts. After all I think the target only went up during his last election run. People only see last minute attempts to gain votes by repairing the over due broken mess that are the streets of Mount Vernon. They are blinded disillusion of the Target shopping center. The area where target was placed, could have been used for an office space and buildings which could have brought high paying jobs to the city, and that money could have helped the smaller businesses stay in Mount Vernon aiding into the revenue by its own  

The Roundabout has cased a traffic mess, and cost 2 million of tax payer’s funds. I also understand that 3million dollars is lost under his leadership, and he refuses to release the information requested by the FBI. 30,000 dollars of water to top off a huge water bill that I am sure is also being funded by our tax dollars

Mount Vernon is in dire need of real AID. How would I improve Mount Vernon, How about, bringing in office businesses and corporations, after all Target and Best Buy only brings minimum wage jobs and keep the struggling in a struggle. Due to the terrorist attacks on 911 more corporations have moved out of NYC and into many places in the surrounding areas. Yet did Mount Vernon every try to lure those businesses in? That would allow jobs in our home, which would help the small businesses that would help the streets and give the kids something to strive for. Jobs with higher wages and responsibility and prestige something other then collecting shopping carts for a retail store.  

WEll, the investigation, and the plot, thickens!!!

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (CBS) 10/11/07 ― FBI agents have raided the Mount Vernon City Hall, CBS 2 has learned, issuing search warrants regarding an organized crime investigation into waste carting businesses that have been collecting money from the city and may have city contracts.

The subpoena served at City Hall on Thursday morning was very specific, itemizing exactly which file cabinets and boxes of records the FBI was seeking.

Three companies are specifically mentioned in the subpoena: A&D Carting; United Waste Services; and Transcamp Demolition.

Agents are searching for any records of payments to those companies.

Interestingly, Westchester County officials say none of those companies is licensed to do business in the county.

Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis -- who is already fighting for his job after losing the Democratic primary last month -- has not commented on the investigation yet, but a news conference was scheduled for later in the day.

Earlier this month, news broke of a separate federal grand jury probe into the Mount Vernon Urban Renewal Agency. Davis said he was not a target of that probe and added it was a politically motivated investigation trying to make him look bad during an election year.

Davis has called his lawyer to City Hall, who will likely be addressing the media during Thursday's scheduled news conference.
